Aker Woods: Log Railings and Stairs
Aker Woods has the materials, equipment and experienced craftsmen to offer log railings and stairs. These log railings and stairs are built to your specifications at our log yard from cured, hand-peeled posts, rails, and logs and shipped in ready-to-install segments. They're built to last from thick, sturdy Ponderosa Pine. We fit them together with the authentic mortise and tenon method, for extra durability. We use "character" logs to make these, which means we look for posts and rails which have burls, curves, twists, forks, and porcupine scars. This makes every piece we make a unique work of art.
These railings can be used for interior or exterior porches and balconies. Standard segments cost $55 per linear foot, plus shipping; railings along stairs are $85 per linear foot, plus shipping. We can even supply your vertical posts, and pre-drill them to receive your railing segments.
These massive, half-log stairs (pictured above right) would cost you $2,400, plus shipping. They're 4' wide and rise 8'8". The treads are a minimum 11" wide and the stringers are made from 12x3" planks, un-edged on the 3" sides. For an added cost, we can coat all surfaces with clear polyurethane. This helps keep the wood clean during shipping and installation. If you want us to apply some other coating to your wood, let us know.
